Bio

Hello, I'm Cathy Pennington and I am the principal at Ashley Elementary.

I am married with a 27 year old son and a married 29 year old daughter.

 

I received my Bachelor's of Arts from Michigan State University in Education with majors in Special Education and Social Science. My masters degree is also from Michigan State University in Curriculum.   I also have the equivalent of a Specialist's Degree in courses related to education.   I have been a teacher/administrator in the Anchor Bay schools for twenty years.  I have been very fortunate to experience many different roles throughout my career with Anchor Bay Schools.  I began teaching special education at the high school.  I was the first teacher to co-teach highly successful classes combining special education and regular education students.  What a great experience that was.  After teaching for eight years at the high school, I moved to the elementary level as a teacher consultant.  I was very involved in testing and evaluation of students with possible learning issues.   I worked with classroom teachers to provide the best possible learning experience for students.    About six years later another opportunity presented itself.  Anchor Bay received a LEAP (literacy) grant to look at and provide interventions for our at risk learners.  The LEAP grant ran for three years and had a very positive impact on our at risk learners.  For the past six years I have had the pleasure and honor to be principal of Ashley Elementary.   What an extraordinary experience this has been so far.
