Bio

I have taught second grade here at Lighthouse for the past seven years. Prior
to this position, I was an elementary technology teacher. Having experience
teaching grades kindergarten through fifth, I KNOW second grade is where it's
at! Students really grow and bloom as learners in second grade. It is very
rewarding to guide children as they become independent readers,
writers, problem solvers, and thinkers. Before earning my teaching
certificate, I taught various community education programs and worked as a
Latchkey director.
I am a proud puppy mommy to my black lab mix - Molly. She is a rescued dog
and is extremely sweet and loving (and spoiled). She makes me smile every
day. When I am not teaching I am probably taking Molly for a walk around the
pond or in the woods. We love to adventure through nature!

My other hobbies include reading, writing, decorating my new home, and
rooting for the Red Wings and Tigers. I love to write poems, stories, and novels for
young readers in my spare time. While I don't watch a lot of television, I
am a movie buff. I go to the movies a few times a month and (gasp) own over
400 DVDs. Good grief!

Here are some of my teaching credentials:

Master of Arts in Education (Educational Technology Major)/Central Michigan
University
Master Credits in Reading/Saginaw Valley State University
Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (Science Major)/Wayne State
University

Here are some programs I have certification or training in:
- Star Lab
- DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)
- MLPP (Michigan Literacy Progress Profile)
- Project Wet
- Project Wild
- Touch Math
- Read Naturally

Mission For the Class

My mission is to provide a nurturing learning environment in which students
can achieve their full potential. This will be done by fostering a
partnership with family, working to meet the needs of each child, and
creating positive learning experiences that lead to successes both
academically and socially.
