"Middle School North 6th Grade Choir and North 7/8th Grade Combined Choir received Excellent or Division I Rating at District Choral Festival. On Monday, March 12 ABMS North Choirs participated in the District 16 Choral Festival hosted by Dakota High School Choirs. They were evaluated on 6 different categories in performance; tone, pitch, rhythm, diction, presentation and interpretation as well as sight singing. Each judge is able to award 30 points. The scores for both choirs were all in the high 20's with the 7/8th Grade Choir receiving a 29 out of 30 in sight singing testing. They received an overall Division I rating which earned them an invitation to perform at the State Choral Festival at Marysville High School on Monday, April 23. The judges complimented our students on their professional stage deportment (how they carried themselves on and off stage as well as throughout the performance.) Most choirs lose points for lack of facial expression and lack of physically moving to the music. Out students were highly complimented on their physical involvement with the music. The clinic judge asked, "Please tell me HOW you get these students to move appropriately to music."
The performance at Marysville on April 23 will be free and open to the public. Parents and family members are invited and encouraged to attend and support our young singers in their music education. Middle school choirs do not receive a rating at State Choral Festival but have the opportunity to work with professors for vocal music from major university's across the state and country. It's an honor to be invited to perform.
Chaperones will be needed. Remember if you are interested in helping out you must be on the "District Approved List". This process does take 5 to 10 days.
Thank you for sharing your singers with me and allowing them to be a part of this educational experience."
